A Quick Guide to Fuel Prices in the UAE

Fuel pricing in the UAE follows a simple rhythm once you know it. Here is how the system works and what each grade means for your car.

How are fuel prices set in the UAE?

Since deregulation in 2015, the UAE Fuel Price Committee reviews fuel prices every month. It looks at the average global oil price for the previous month, adds refining and distribution costs, and sets the new pump prices. The rates are announced in the last days of the month and take effect on the 1st. Prices are identical across all seven emirates and at every station, from ADNOC to ENOC and EPPCO.

What is the difference between Super 98, Special 95 and E-Plus 91?

The number is the octane rating, which measures how well the fuel resists knocking in the engine. Super 98 is the premium grade for high performance cars. Special 95 is the standard grade most sedans and SUVs on UAE roads run on. E-Plus 91 is the economy option and the cheapest of the three. Check your fuel cap or manual: using a higher octane than your car needs does not improve performance, it just costs more per litre.

Should I choose diesel or petrol?

Diesel suits heavy vehicles, large SUVs and commercial fleets because diesel engines deliver more torque and better mileage on long runs. For regular city driving, petrol is usually the simpler choice. Note that diesel is currently the most expensive fuel per litre in the UAE, so compare running costs, not just the pump price.

Why do UAE fuel prices change every month?

Because they are linked to the global oil market. When crude benchmarks like Brent and Murban rise on supply worries or geopolitical tension, the committee passes the increase on the following month. When crude falls, prices drop the same way. One month’s volatility shows up at your local pump roughly 30 days later, in both directions.

How can I spend less on fuel?

Keep a steady speed and avoid hard acceleration, which burns the most fuel in stop and go traffic. Keep tyres properly inflated, service the car on schedule, and ease off the air conditioning when you can. For daily commutes on fixed routes, the Dubai Metro or carpooling can cut the monthly fuel bill noticeably.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the petrol price in the UAE today?

For October 2026, Super 98 costs AED 4.40 per litre, Special 95 costs AED 4.28, and E-Plus 91 costs AED 4.21. These rates are effective 1 to 31 October 2026 and are the same at every station across the UAE.

What is the diesel price in the UAE today?

Diesel costs AED 4.80 per litre for October 2026, effective 1 to 31 October 2026. It is currently the most expensive fuel per litre in the country.

Are fuel prices the same in Dubai and Abu Dhabi?

Yes. Fuel prices are set nationally and are identical across all seven emirates, and across ADNOC, ENOC and EPPCO stations. There is no saving to be had by filling up in a different emirate.

When do UAE fuel prices change?

On the 1st of every month. The Fuel Price Committee announces the new rates in the last days of the previous month, and the price then stays fixed for the whole calendar month.

Why did fuel prices go up in October 2026?

October was the third straight monthly increase. Global crude stayed high through September on tension around the US-Iran situation, with Brent trading around $107 a barrel. The committee’s monthly mechanism passed that rise on to drivers: petrol up about 60 fils a litre, diesel up 50 fils.

Which petrol should I use for my car?

Follow your car’s manual or the label inside the fuel cap. Most regular cars in the UAE run perfectly on Special 95. Only high performance and turbocharged engines truly need Super 98. Using premium fuel in a car designed for 95 adds cost without benefit.
