Dubai, UAE: Galaxy Hockey Academy, which trains more than 300 children in Dubai, has introduced two free digital tools designed to help young players and their parents assess skating skills and hockey knowledge.
The tools, Skating Score and Hockey IQ, became available in October 2026. Both aim to give families a structured view of a child’s current skills and provide a starting point for discussions with coaches.
Skating Score analyses skating skills through video
Skating Score uses a 10 second video of a player skating, filmed from the side, to generate a score between 0 and 100. The tool assesses four areas: stance, forward lean, stride rhythm, and balance.
The analysis takes about one minute and runs directly in the browser. According to the academy, the video is not uploaded and stays on the family’s device.
The tool uses an open pose tracking model to assess movement. However, it does not currently evaluate skating edges, speed, or game awareness. The academy also states that it has not completed a formal validation study or published an accuracy percentage.
If the system cannot assess stride rhythm, it excludes that measure and calculates the score using the other three areas. A Galaxy coach reviews and confirms each result on the ice.
Hockey IQ tests knowledge through a 12 question quiz
Hockey IQ is a quiz designed for children aged 6 to 12 and their parents. It includes 12 questions divided into four sections.
After completing the quiz, users receive a score out of 100, a Galaxy level, and a shareable result card. Families can share their results with an academy coach for further feedback.
Both tools are free to use and do not require registration. Families who request feedback receive a WhatsApp response from the academy on the same day.
Tools form part of the Galaxy Method
Skating Score and Hockey IQ are part of the Galaxy Method, the academy’s approach to player development and assessment.
The method combines coach led training with performance measurements. It covers five areas: measured skills, a development path towards professional hockey, character development, AI supported practice, and a player passport designed to connect a child’s progress across the academy’s locations.
The academy also uses its Road to Pro game to recognise habits linked to sleep, school, and respect.
Further digital tools planned for 2027
Galaxy Hockey Academy is working on additional tools for 2027. These include a monthly parent report covering skating, shooting, game sense, and character development, along with a player passport that will bring a child’s videos, performance data, and rankings together.
The academy is also planning video reviews of training sessions, individual player highlights, and a WhatsApp family assistant that will support five languages. Launch dates for these features have not yet been announced.
Galaxy Warriors U11 win international tournament titles
The academy’s U11 team, Galaxy Warriors, secured two international tournament wins in October and November 2026.
The team won its category at the Istanbul Cup on 17 October 2026. On 1 November, the same age group won gold at an international youth tournament in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, defeating a team from Kazakhstan 5–3 in the final.
AMYLCO is the academy’s General Partner.
